I read once that if you don't tell your wife you love her, someone else will. I laughed. You don't have to be a diehard romantic to give this book. I'm a tongue tied procrastinator when it comes to expressing love. So I got this book this week because it actually looks fun to do. Great questions, checklists and fill-in-the-blanks are leading me through putting into words what I love about my wife. You know, before someone else does. Ha.

Kinda cute

I gave this to my bf for V-day this year and he really enjoyed reading though it. It took me over 3 hours to fill it out b/c you have to think of stories, memories, etc from your relationship. I've been dating him for a year and a half, but I think this book is more geared toward those who have been in a relationship longer or are married.

Fun Gift For Seasoned Couples

I bought this book as a Valentines Day gift for my boyfriend. I'm still currently in the process of filling it out, but I'm having a fun time doing so. There are a ton of questions to answer. Some questions are deep, thoughtful, and loving, while others are just fun and wacky. The book is definitely geared to couples who have been in a relationship for at least a year or more I would say. Don't buy this book if your love is just starting out because some questions are too advanced for new love.

Pros:
The book does allow you to express your feelings in a fun and different way.
There are little sections where you can tape in photos or little keepsakes from earlier times.
There are a variety of questions and silly little checklists to do that are fun to answer and enjoyable to read.

Cons:
A few of the questions seem to be somewhat repetitive or similar to each other, it's hard to come up with a different answer for those ones.
By the time I reached the middle of the book, I was sick of love. lol. I began to feel cheesey mainly b/c there are so many pages to this book. It's not just a quick fill out, this takes TIME. I think the book could have been shorter and still have gotten the same point across.

Overall this is a great gift for any couple looking to express their love in a different light. However, just make sure you have the time and patience to do it before you start!

Truly ZAYN by ZAYN, a raw and unfiltered look at the person - not the popstar

Self-titled and self-produced, Zayn awards us with a view of his life pre, during, and post 1D. But the book isn’t really about 1D at all. It’s a sprawling and eclectic work of song notes, photographs of Malik, and a few pieces of his own personal art. It provides us, through the sentimental stories and heartwarming positivity that Malik weaves in every page, with a rare inside look at the person - not the popstar.

It’s romantic at times, simply in the personal and casual nature with which the book presents itself. You can imagine Malik spilling his life’s story to you at a barbecue, and the words seem pulling directly from his own thoughts. There's no ghostwriting here, and it's refreshing to see a celebrity's "personal account of their life" actually be their OWN personal account, and not an interviewer trying to hammer in the person's syntax in every sentence. These are Zayn's words, emphatic and innocent and so very relatable.

There’s not much sugar-coating, either. It’s honest and real, two things that Malik has professed to always striving for, and I must say he definitely succeeds. He details his struggles with an eating disorder, as well as crippling anxiety and self-doubt. It’s equal parts heart wrenching and hopeful. He vows to perform, vows to make his fans and his family proud, and you find yourself rooting for him to do just that. Though Malik pulls no punches, describing his feelings about lack of control in his life that led to his eating disorder, there’s a wistfulness to his words. Never cynical or even histrionic, but occasionally weathered after the vast amount of life he’s lived already, the book also serves as a true reminder that Malik is only twenty-two years old. He is just barely an adult in the eyes of the world, but has already experienced enough to fill a book. He’s charming in his photographs, and his talent shines through in song notes, bits of unused lyrics, and his own personal art creations he displays.

All-in-all, it was a great read. I finished in just about two and a half hours - and that was with stopping to appreciate Malik’s beauty in every photograph. It’s a quick read-through, meant to be browsed and perused and appreciated for years to come. If you want to know about the real Zayn Malik, there’s no better way than with his own words, and this is it.

Beautiful and Potent

I bought the book a few hours and finished it a few seconds before starting this review. As I went through each page, I was caught up into every word printed. Even as my Kindle Fire HD keeps messing up, I keep coming back to finish this review. Every penny spent was well worth it. I don't typically read non fiction or memoirs because I'm a suspense loving reader, but lately, nothing's kept my interest to get past a few chapters. I decided today that I would read something new and hopefully, be engaged.

Engaged, I was. Zayn puts his heart into every word. There are many subjects that the media said were in the book that isn't and for that, actually, I'm thankful. He never speaks badly about anyone in his book. He's positive and kind about life, music, and the people in his life. I found myself feeling for him, understanding the person and wanting to know more.

What I enjoyed most was probably him describing the music process with each producer and in turn, the producers thoughts on him.

Beautifully written and powerfully told, I recommend this book to even a person who knows nothing about him.

Good but isn't what I expected

From the bio and all the hype about the book, I expected this to be almost like an inside look into zayns journal through out the past few years, or him giving his 100% unfiltered thoughts on the situations he has faced, and that's not what this is at all. It's mostly pictures of zayn with little blurbs of "I'm finally in control" and a little background of a few select songs. It's a decent book for what it is but it's not at all what was expected.

These guys never ran. This is the true story behind the media headlines.

Their mission seemed impossible to start with. The name "Operation No-Return" was a perfect way to describe this mission.
60 men, in Landrovers with no armor protection, taking on the surrender of a 100 000-strong army corps, equipped with artillery and tanks.
The Fedayeen and the Iraqi army tried to pin them down, but the squadron stayed mobile and everyone got out alive. Without losing a single man. The lessons learned from Bravo Two-Zero truly paid off.
The incredible is that after they escaped by the skin of their teeth, they were branded as cowards that ran away from the fight.
Another example of the narrow-mindedness of the politicians and the media today.
This story is a testimony to the kind off men that makes up the Special Forces. They kept their heads on the swivel and their fingers on the triggers, and that got them out of a jam that should had killed them all.

One of Nora Roberts' Best!

Shannon Bodine knows how quickly life changes. Her father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly a year earlier and now her mother was dying of cancer. Shannon didn't know how she could bear to lose both of her parents so close together, but her mother's dying words shattered Shannon's carefully ordered world. Her real father was Thomas Concannon, a man her mother met and had an affair with in Ireland years ago. Shannon was devastated and grieving when the private investigator found her and informed her that she had two sisters living in Ireland - and they wanted to meet her. Shannon immediately rejected the offer to visit and returned to her work as a graphic artist in New York, but she couldn't focus and nothing seemed important. Before she knew it, she found herself on her way to Ireland and a family she had never met...
From the moment Murphy Muldoon saw her, he knew that Shannon was the one for him. He had been dreaming of her for years and now she was finally here, in the flesh, all he had to do was make her his. But Shannon was strong and stubborn and Murphy found that he had his work cut out for him. Oh, she was attracted to him, he could see that well enough, but she resisted his efforts to court her and refused to believe that she could have a life there in Ireland with him as a painter. This is the third book in the 'Born in' series and it is my favorite of the trilogy. I loved Shannon and Murphy's characters and enjoyed seeing the people from the other books pop up in this one so I could see how they were doing. Roberts must have a special love for Ireland because she paints such a beautiful picture of the country and makes it almost a character in the book. The love story here is wonderful, two modern people from very different walks of life with some powerful dreams mixed in to make things complicated. This is a wonderful, fast, fun read that I enjoy reading time and time again!

Nothing Shameful About this Book!

One of the things that sets Nora Roberts above other authors is her ability to produce a trilogy that gets better with each book. By the time you read the third and last book, you're left wanting even more. That's definitely how I felt after reading the Born In trilogy.

In Born in Fire we were introduced to hot-tempered Maggie, Thomas Concannon's oldest daughter. In Born in Ice we were introduced to cool and reserved Brianna, Concannon's second daughter. Now in the third and last of the trilogy, we meet Shannon Bodine, the illegitimate daughter of Thomas Concannon. We finally learn about Amanda (the woman who came into Thomas' life and showed him how to love again after years of marriage to a heartless woman). We learn more about Maggie and Brianna's mother and her life of misery. We also learn about the unborn child Amanda carried with her to America all those years ago when she left Thomas.

Shannon grew up in America and didn't know that her real father was actually an Irishman she had never met. When her parents die, she learns the truth and sets out to fulfill her mother's dying wish that she meet the sisters she never knew she had. Shannon travels to County Clare, Ireland not really knowing what to expect and still reeling from confusion.

It's not an easy meeting, but a bond begins to grow between Shannon, Maggie and Brianna. While they're blazing new ground and learning about each other, Shannon also must deal with her attraction to long-time Concannon family friend and neighbor, Murphy Muldoon. This is where the story differs from other Nora Roberts books. Roberts shows a magical love that is timeless - the destiny of two lovers from long ago brought back to the present so they could possibly reunite if only they open their minds and hearts. The underlying message is simple - true love is eternal.

I've read other reviews and spoken with many people about this series, and this book is definitely one up for debate. The "paranormal elements" of encounters in past lives between these two characters and flashbacks to show that past relationship aren't received by some readers with an open mind. I found it to be an interesting twist and added a new dimension to the overall story line. If you liked the Donovan series (the tales about the three witch cousins, Morgana, Anastasia and Sabastian) then you should love this trilogy. This is definitely not your cookie-cutter romance plot.

I feel the characters are strong and developed well. The reader is given more insight into Murphy Muldoon and from the glimpses we were given in the first two books, this is a nice option. If you believe that true love is eternal, then it explains why Maggie and Brianna were never interested romantically in the hunk that lived next door!

As with other Silhouette romance books, this is short and provides a quick read. It's a great way to spend a cold afternoon and will make you feel warm inside.

Shannon Bodine lived a charmed life until she found out that her life was based on a lie. Her mother had an affair with a married man, and the man she had always loved as a father, wasn't her natural parent. Since her mothers last wish was for her to seek out the family she never knew, Shannon heads to Ireland.

When she meets Brianna and Maggie's neighbor Murphy Muldoon, they find an unexpected connection and immediate attraction. He had been dreaming of Shannon for as long as he could remember, and knew they were destined to be. Shannon was a painter, and Murphy loved his little piece of country life. He didn't know how they could intertwine their lives, but knew she was a part of him.

I wasn't impressed with the flashbacks and past life twists. Overall the characters lacked the development I expect.

Intersting take on growing old

Interesting. Actually a fairly short read (I normally read at night before bed and finished this in one sitting so one can easily reread this), my wife bought this for me after we read a review in the WSJ. It contains the Latin text first and then the English Translation. Overall given the reviews I was underwhelmed (not that anything Cicero said was offensive or bad just very ordinary). While certainly worth reading you might be better off using the library on this one. I read the kindle version and it was fine, no technical issues. One final sidelight, Cicero talks about a lot of Roman historical figures (some relatively minor) and their actions about 200 to 250 years in the past (from his writing). I wonder how many of today's college graduates would know of even the major characters from US history in the time of say the French and Indian War through the War of 1812, perhaps most and I have a bad sample

While much of this can be found in various self help publications, Cicero did not steal the good advice from todays publications

He died thousands of years before these books came out. But, the fact that we have thousands of years being reminded about the basic sameness of the human condition, soul and experience is well worth remembering. Cicero's thoughts are an eternal part of us and have certainly been known for as long as we have human. Reading Cicero should remind us that we are all human and have been struggling with the vicissitudes of life for as long as humanity has existed and will continue that struggle until humanity no longer exists.

that in better times would have signaled the start of retirement

As I'm hitting a milestone birthday this week, that in better times would have signaled the start of retirement, I'm glad that I had purchased this little volume and taken the time to read it. Virtually everything in the text is pertinent--and in much more eloquent prose than is available in all of the twaddle that passes for advice for those aging on the internet (or elsewhere).

Philip Freeman's translation is very easy reading, and I found myself having a difficult time putting it down. Having the Latin on the facing page is an excellent idea! I recall (vaguely) trying to read Cicero's Catiline Orations in 3rd year high school Latin (tentative grip on the ablative and past pluperfect subjunctive in hand) and thinking that was really needed was an excellent translation where I wouldn't have to simultaneously keep two books open to the right pages. This would have done quite nicely! Seeing and trying to recall how to pronounce the words on the left page was a significant part of the fun of reading this book.

Over fifty years ago I thoroughly enjoyed all things Greek & Roman. Bulfinch, Ovid, & Hamilton were my favorite writers. This book has taken me back and given me the idea that perhaps I should relearn Latin when/if I retire. It was the subject that gave me my greatest joy in high school. An active inquisitive mind, Cicero says, is important to aging well. A new old language sounds like a plan! (I've also started reclaiming my garden from the brier patch to take another of his suggestions, albeit on a smaller scale).

In the age of sound bites and tweets, Cicero may at first seem too, well . . . ancient. That acknowledged, I would highly recommend this book. After all, none of us is getting younger, and the youngest of us could prosper as well from the small investment required to read it. Given the vivid translation and the original author, it provides several cuts above the quality of advice in AARP outlets!

About the Author

Shafiullah Khan is an assistant professor at the Institute of InformationTechnology (IIT) at the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), K.P.K, Pakistan. His research interests include wireless mesh networks, ad hoc networks, sensor networks, and wireless network security. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Communication Networks and Information Security (IJCNIS).

Al-Sakib Khan Pathan is an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Malaysia. He is also the founding head of the NDC laboratory at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), IIUM. His research interests include wireless sensor networks, network security, and e-services technologies. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal on Internet and Distributed Computing Systems (IJIDCS).

Nabil Ali Alrajeh is an associate professor of medical informatics in the Biomedical Technology Department at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Alrajeh worked as a senior advisor for the Ministry of Higher Education implementing development programs including educational affairs, strategic planning, and research and innovation. Dr. Alrajeh’s research interests include e-health applications, hospital information systems, telemedicine, intelligent tutoring systems, and WSNs.
