A Family Affair: My Bad Boy Foster Brother, by Abriella Blake

When my parents told me they were thinking of fostering a boy from inner-city Baltimore I thought they were losing their minds…

But when the social worker’s car pulled up I nearly fainted at the sight of the man who stepped onto our sidewalk—tall, muscular, covered in tattoos and piercings…he didn’t look like a foster boy at all.

And the way he looked at me—like a lion eyeing its prey—made me feel uncomfortably turned on.

I can’t believe my parents would put me in this impossible situation, a self-conscious and awkward 18-year old girl with a totally off-limits and totally hot guy living one door down the hall from me.

This is sure to end badly.

A Family Affair is a full length contemporary new adult romance novel. Content is suitable for adults only, contains graphic sexual content, harsh language, and mature themes.

not your typical stepbrother romance - some spoilers - marked
By Justirishgirl
It seems that I have read a lot of stepbrother romance books lately as I like forbidden romances and they seem to be everywhere.
Most blend together that I cannot remember if I read them or not. I have KU and most get returned after reading. This book
is the exception in every way including that I ended up buying it because I thought it was good.

How is this book different then some of the other stepbrother romances? There is a story here. It is not less than 100 page like most of those other books and the characters and story are developed. Here, a loving family with one child takes in an older at risk teenager. Both the biological daughter, Jo and Trace, the foster son, are seniors in high school. Both grow and change over the course of the book for the better.

Unlike some other stepbrother books it was not just about sex. There was chemistry between the characters. The sex scenes were hot but I was glad that they did not happen until at least 1/3 of the book as it gave time to build up the sexual tension and character development.

SOME SPOILERS BELOW

There was no needless, long separations, which I hate. I usually hate them because most of the time they seem pointless and it means that one or both of the characters have sex with other people. Here, despite a very brief separation, once Trace and Jo become a couple they stay together. I liked the ending. It was not a cliffhanger or leading into a second book. Rather it was a good HFN that I found believable.

There was one thing that I disliked about this book and it is a big trigger of mine - cheating. Sadly this book had cheating. It is surprised me that the cheater was the heroine. More likely than not it is the hero that is the cheater and a lot of the time, if it is the heroine cheating then she is cheating with with the hero. Here, IMO, the cheating is worse in terms of the heroine is having an affair with her married marriage counselor, who she gave her v card to. The affair happens at least 40% into the book. The only good thing that I can say about it is that after her and the hero hooked up, she stopped having sex with the counselor. So at least she was not cheating with the hero. Besides the hero kissing another girl they are faithful to each other and that is the reason that I could handle it - that they did not cheat on each other.

Lots of loose ends not tied up...SPOILERS
By Amazon Customer
So this book was just okay. I have read a few step brother romances lately, and they all kind of have the same plot, but some are better than others. This one was a bit different in that the H is actually a foster kid. Still a similar plot though. I was liking this book until about 50 percent. Another reviewer said that they liked the build-up to the romance because their relationship started out as a nice friendship. I must have missed that because it seemed like there was the initial meeting, a little bit of angst and awkwardness, and then jumping right into 'oh my God I have to have you right now.' Trace in the beginning of the book talks like a 12 year old but then all of the sudden he sounds much more mature. There is a whole lot about Jo and her guidance counselor that I did not care to read about. How gross that they ALWAYS did it at school! Just a gross situation all together. I know Jo's parents were hippies, but how could they not know that their daughter and foster son were right out in the garage having sex all the time??!! This book left a lot of loose ends. At one point, Trace is wanted by the police, but we never find out what happens with that after he is found. Do Jo's parents ever find out about her and Trace and how do they feel about it? How exactly are Jo and Trace paying for college? Jo's mom wanted her to go to Dartmouth but she ends up elsewhere. How did that play out? And Jo never actually tells Trace she loves him, which annoyed me. Maybe I am being nitpicky but it was just too many unanswered questions.

umm, not that great
By Amazon Customer
I had to make myself finish reading this book. There were so many grammatical errors & misspellings of names that is was difficult to understand. Overall, the idea was good but the follow through was horrible.
