Zhihua Yao received his PhD from Boston University. He is Research Assistant Professor at the Centre of Buddhist Studies, The University of Hong Kong. He specializes in Buddhist Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion.

an outstanding exploration of the nature of mind in Buddhist theory

The book has provided a historical horizon for the readers in understanding the distinguish concept of "self cognition", or "self - consciousess" in psychological perspective, found in Yogacara's Buddhism. The author has traced the roots and presented the historical development by explaining the fundamental conceptual framework for most of the important traditions in Buddhist thought. While reading the book, our knowledge about the nature of mind in Buddhist theory would be enriched. I really think that this is one of the most important publications in Buddhist field this year.
